"THE MAGIC BOARD"

A Synopsis Of An Original Screenplay

Larry Kato, a surfer with an attitude, who's sole purpose in life is to surf, mangles his arms and is unable to ever paddle a surfboard again.  An older surf mentor named Terry explains that what Larry needs is to find a spiritual path in order to regain his surfing ability. Larry tries various spiritual disciplines but utterly fails, in comical fashion.

Despondent about his condition, Larry becomes a couch potato until his girl, Sandy,  takes him to a grand opening of  a surf shop where he wins a doorprize - a remarkable surfboard with a single eye painted on the deck.

At the beach, the surfboard amazingly begins to talk. After getting over his shock, Larry discovers that the surfboard, which he names Duke, is a magic surfboard - a panacea for surfers in need:  Duke can cruise across the water on his own power without the need for Larry to paddle.

So, with the help of Duke, Larry is once again the terror of  the beach.

During the winter, Larry and Sandy go to the surfing mecca of the world,  the North Shore in Hawaii, where they enter into  an amateur surfing contest.  Larry, with Duke, does well and wins the semi-finals.  Sandy suffers terrible wipeouts and breaks her board. She asks Larry if she could borrow Duke. Larry hesitates but gives in and lends her his magic board.

Sandy takes Duke out on the waves and wipes out again. She swims in without Duke. Larry is horror stricken as the magic board gets washed to shore, broken in half.

Duke, broken but still talking,  tells Larry that in order to repair the damage he must undergo the Gauntlet of the Seven Lessons which first entails finding someone who can fix a magic board. There are only two people who can repair Duke. One is the Kahuna Ta'aroa who can only be reached by  canoeing across a shark infested sea, by riding a giant wave into a sea cave,  navigating through a dangerous mystic grotto, fighting off ten fierce Samoan warriors, climbing a hundred foot high cliff and by breaking open a stone door.  The other person who can fix Duke is the president of Ocean Wave Surfboards in Waikiki.

Larry opts for Waikiki. Up at the penthouse suite of Ocean Wave Surfboards,  Larry is made to wait in the reception room trying to get an appointment...for an appointment! After a week of waiting, Larry decides to go through the adventure necessary to see the Kahuna. And so begins a series of lessons in which Duke builds Larry's character by making him face difficult situations.

Offshore Kauai, Larry and Duke escapes being eaten by huge Wacko sharks and manages to surf into a sea cave.  Inside the grotto, they are beset by malevolent Guardians of the Grotto, assisted by the benevolent Red Karma Leeches, and finally escape the grotto by going over a waterfall.

Then Larry battles ten Samoan warriors and climbs a cliff until he comes to a cave where a moving wall threatens to knock him over the ledge. He batters the wall down and confronts two energy portals. He discovers the word of power which enables him to enter the portal. He goes through and ends up back in the reception room of Ocean Wave
