Synopsis - The Gods Made Love

"The Gods Made Love"
A Synopsis of the Original Screenplay
By Richard S. Omura

An archaeological find is unearthed and brought to a museum in New York. Subsequently, Manhattan is plagued by a rash of unusual murders, all involving joggers that were burnt to death.  Detective William Dannix gets nowhere on the case until he meets Katrina King, an archaeologist. Together, they find that the killer is Hoton, a mythic Norse god; inscriptions on ancient tablets mention Hoton as coming back to life.

When Katrina becomes Hoton's target, Dannix tries unusual methods of stopping Hoton but fails. The chase takes them to Denmark. There, at the dig where Hoton was initially unearthed, they discover that Hoton is an elemental spirit trapped in the material world.

They learn that in order for Hoton to return to his spirit world, he has to merge bodies with another being, the spirit's way of making love. The previous humans were burnt to death as a side-effect of not having enough spirituality to become a pathway to the spirit world. Dannix reasons that if Katrina can be spiritual enough when Hoton catches up with her, she may survive, thereby becoming the bridge to the spiritual realm by which Hoton can return home. Using a biofeedback device, Dannix trains Katrina to attain a high spiritual state. Unfortunately, this state is disrupted by loud noises.

When Hoton arrives, a deafening thunderstorm prevents Katrina from maintaining the state. Fleeing Hoton, they take refuge in an abandoned cathedral. As the mythic god nears, Katrina flickers in and out of the necessary spiritual state. The moment the biofeedback machine signifies that she has achieved the state, Hoton takes her, enabling him to create a path to his realm. There is a climactic burst of scintillating radiance from the spiritual energies being released as Hoton streaks out through the roof to return home.

Katrina survives only to see Hoton's ball of energy return, but this time to resurrect those that he had previously killed, before leaving for good.
