In circular motion
there is balance.
In and out, around and around,
up, down, give and take.

Block this motion,
and the system comes to a halt.
Let it flow,
and it will fling off intruders
and keep on going.




WHAT IS KATSUGEN?



     Katsugen is a way of letting the natural system of our bodies take care of itself; of maintaining and sustaining the circular balance of energy in our body.
     It trains the natural system in all of us which keeps us healthy and unfettered by the arrogant attitude of the mind. This inner system includes the autonomic (involuntary) nervous system which plays a major role in our health.
     Dogs eat grass knowing somehow that it's good for their digestive system. Creatures throughout the animal kingdom instinctively know what vegetation to eat in order to feel better. How? They don't have medical knowledge, yet, they
know because they're in tune with their body. Actually, they are mostly body. They don't have enough "mind" to oppose the body.
     The body
knows things which the mind doesn't.
     Modern man, by putting the mind on a pedestal at the expense of the body, ignores the health urgings of what I will call the Innate Bodily Intelligence, or IBI.
     Your mind should not be in conflict with the IBI.
     Rather, it should be in harmony, because basically, health is your body in harmony with its inner and outer environment.
     In the present state of many people's thinking, the mind is thought of as separate from and superior to the body. This model of thinking creates conflict between the arrogance of our mind and our Innate Bodily Intelligence. Such conflict can result in otherwise avoidable illness, obesity, drug and other substance addictions, stress, and a host of mental and physical problems.
     The purpose of katsugen is to allow the mind to throw off its illusions  and increase its receptivity to the Innate Bodily Intelligence.
     This will create harmony and unity in you so that you can function with a whole and complete Body/Mind Intelligence.
     Katsugen is a movement that comes out of your Innate Bodily Intelligence. It is a way to exercise and tune up your autonomous (involuntary) nervous system. But it's not just exercise, or a dance as most people would define dance.
     Katsugen is appropriate for people of all ages, all physical abilities, even the physically challenged. It doesn't require faith (even though it helps)  or any religious  or spiritual affiliation, although I believe the IBI stems from a spiritual source.
     Katsugen is a movement that is different for each person, each time that it is practiced. It is generally pleasurable and can last from just a few minutes to an indefinite length of time. It can be done alone or with a partner but it is more private than public. Make no mistake: It is not a cure-all. In fact, it is more a preventative measure than an instant fix. It is a lifestyle that will lead to fulfillment and well-being.
     When disease or pain occurs, katsugen can ease you back in the right direction and can assist you in restoring your health. This may happen quickly, or it may take some time. It depends on your condition. Katsugen will not be able to fix a broken bone or grow a new limb, but it will help you in healing and regaining your physical, emotional and psychological health.
